The Netherlands is not only famous for its tulips, but is also one of the most innovative and digitally advanced countries in Europe. The country regularly ranks at the top of the EU's Digital Economy and Society Index (DESI).

The economic and cultural centre of the Netherlands is the so-called Randstad: the three provinces of Utrecht, North Holland and South Holland. The Randstad is home to 44 percent of the Dutch population around the major centres of Amsterdam, Rotterdam with Europe's largest port, The Hague and Utrecht.
